Artist Statement - Ned Kelly

After graduating from Art School I took a job in the Art Department [make-up, to be exact] on ‘The Last Outlaw’ – the Ned Kelly mini-series, produced by Ian Jones. This became a six month history lesson that years later came back to inform this series.

‘…with brutality facing Ned and his loved ones he moulded metal against the forces coming at him.’ This resulted in the now famous armour becoming the visual form of the Kelly legend. The ocean and the ebb and flow of the tide starkly contrasts to the harshness of Ned’s life and as I have always found solace in nature and the sea so did Ned find solace in the bush. I intend to take this series further.
